Summary of contents
After the first part of the review and study on the TCP / IP suite, the course addresses the most important issues related to "Internet" technology, e.g.: network security, architectures and protocols for wireless networks, quality of service, multimedia services and finally the mobility management and the architecture of routers.
The following arguments represents the minimum knowledge required to the students for following the course in an effective way: basic concepts of data networking, circuit and packet switching (virtual call and datagram paradigms), functional architectures, ISO OSI architecture, TCP/IP architecture, physical layer main characteristics (physical media (cables, optical fiber, wireless), structured cabling), data layer basic characteristics, Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 protocol, Layer 2 bridging/switching, Virtual LAN Technologies, IPv4 basic concepts, IP routing basics, TCP/UDP basic knowledge.
The course, beyond the parts of frontal teaching, provides for some topics exercises/demonstrations that are intended to translate into a practical experience some of the concepts and ideas described in class. Some exercises/demonstrations include multiple themes at the same time. The students are organized in small group (3-4 persons) and a specific time schedule with many repetitions of the exercises/demonstrations are organized to give to everyone the opportunity of following these practical lessons.
